It’s that time again, to come out with your kids and/or friends, and enjoy one of the greatest parties in this neighbourhood! There will be games, parades, and movies for the kids, high tea, a beer tent and wine bar for the adults, and of course you can’t miss the potluck dinner and live bands! We look forward to seeing you there!

Want to volunteer on the day? We are still looking for people who would like to lend a hand. Please call or email David – 647 280 7747 / langille@yorku.ca or Jeff – 416 986 2374 / jeffotto@sympatico.ca

This meeting follows the Community Consultation held at St. Leonard’s Hall on 14 May 2014. After many, many weeks of hard work, we finalized “The Pocket Book“, the one and only list of businesses and service recommendations made by your Pocket neighbours. The list was previously known as the “Pocket Recommendations and Skills Exchange List”, which is hosted on the Pocket Facebook page. The PCA took this list of recommendations a step further: we created a searchable online database where with a simple search function you can find all businesses according to category or key word. The Pocket Book also allows you to vote for a business or service, by clicking on a ‘thumbs up’ icon, and to add comments (note that login is required for placing comments). As a bonus, we have also created a filter that shows Pocket based services and businesses only.

Go here to visit The Pocket Book: www.thepocket.ca/resources-links/the-pocket-book/

The continued contribution of our PCA members has made this new exiting feature of the site possible and we would like to offer this as an added value to being a PCA member. It is therefore our intention to make the Pocket Book available to PCA members only. However, at the time of launch, we would like everyone – PCA member or not – to enjoy the great value of the Pocket Book and for this reason we have decided to keep the page accessible to non-members too for the duration of 3 months (July 1 – Sept 30). As of October 2014, The Pocket Book will be a PCA exclusive page, meaning that it is accessible via member login only. So make sure you get your PCA membership if you haven’t already!

February 3rd, 2014

With so many trees haven fallen ill in the last year, and unrepairable damage done by last December’s ice storm, the Pocket has lost much of its so beloved tree canopy. Trees help cool our summers, and diminish the chances of floods during heavy rain.

The Pocket Tree Project is taking in orders now for large trees to be planted in Spring 2014. Trees offered by the city are fairly small at about 8 feet tall, but you can purchase a larger sized tree through a bulk purchase program offered by the Pocket Tree Project. These trees cost $500-1200 and are 20′ tall.

Contact Richard at tree project@thepocket.ca to order your tree, or get more information.
